ISLAMABAD, Tuesday, January 5, 2021 (WNP/DL): God forbids! If Asif Ali Zardari passes away at this crucial juncture of his one and only son’s political career, Faryal Talpur may highjack the party’s leadership on the pretext that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is still immature and party’s affairs are beyond his control.
The corrupt mafia in Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would definitely support Faryal as their vested interests are interlinked with her and Bilawal for them is like an odd man out.
This is what an advocate hailing from the PPP disclosed during a loose talk with his close associates. He further boasted that he would be the Sindh chief minister instead of a minister if the plan goes accordingly.
He claimed that the talks are underway with the establishment through backdoor channels but lamented that a section of the establishment is in the favour of Shehbaz Sharif, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president.
Due to ailing condition and unfriendly relations with the establishment, it seems, Asif Zardari won’t be able to fulfil his lifelong desire of becoming the prime minister of Pakistan. For that purpose, he will have to borrow another life. Faryal may grab this opportunity if establishment turns soft towards the PPP but it is unexpected in the present set up.
It is the high time that Asif Zardari should give a free-hand to Bilawal to handle the party affairs on his own, otherwise, he will have to go through the same hectic exercise as his mother Benazir Bhutto underwent after the judicial murder of his father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
But this time, it will be more adventurous as he will have to face a severe resistance from a family member who, unfortunately, happened to be his aunt in relation.
After Asif Zardari, the worst-case scenario can be for Bilawal to be sidelined from the corridors of power by his aunt but perhaps she is alien to its repercussions as her political engineering may cause irreparable loss to the PPP.
It is pertinent to mention here that Faryal, once, has given the title of “the most powerful woman” during the PPP’s regime in the country and she is still second to none but Asif Zardari in the party because of her too much involvement in the political affairs.
According to some Asif Zardari’s close aides, he himself is not satisfied with his sister’s performance but he has no alternate that’s why; he is compelled to rely on his blood relation.
This scribe has talked a number of PPP senior politicians over the matter but he found them completely reserved. Some of them were very much vocal but they expressed anonymity due to the fear of disqualification from the party’s membership on the charge of going against the party’s policy.
They made indirect complaint that neither they can raise their concerns at the party’s level, nor express in media.
They further said they are mid-career politicians and they cannot afford to put their future at risk by bringing the internal issues of the party in the limelight of the media.
Overall, they proposed Zardari to revisit his internal matters before the time they will be exploited by the external forces.
Expressing their confidence in Bilawal, they hoped that he can get the PPP out of the prevailing political crisis with his pragmatic approach and take it to the new heights of glory.
